Adoption Process
what to expect

The first step to the adoption process is to fill out our foster/adopt application! This is crucial for your ability to adopt through our organization. PLEASE only apply if you are 100% invested in adopting the animal you are pursuing.

Getting matched with a pet

Once you are approved to adopt, you can reach out regarding the pet that you are interested in to see if they are available. Based on the completed application, the FDR team will do their best to find you an animal that is best suited for the household. Please note that this may not be the animal you originally chose. FDR will communicate with you about who/what might be the right fit for your family.

We will set up a meet and greet for the chosen animal. If it goes well, you can take your new addition home! For that to happen, the following steps need to be completed:

  • Adoption application must be completed and approved

  • A contract regarding the adoption must be signed and received by FDR

  • Adoption Fee must be paid in full

The next step is easy- love on your new, furry family member!!

Phoebe (formerly Kamilla) has been a fantastic addition to our family. She has the sweetest demeanor and is loving life as a Vermont dog. She loves cuddling, wrestling with our other PR rescue, tummy rubs and hanging her head out of the car window (she loves the wind in her beard). She brings a smile to everyone that meets her with her expressive little face and eyebrows. Thanks for everything you’ve done!”
