Friends of Duke Rescue is a foster- based organization

We cannot support animals in need without the support of other humans! Fostering allows the dog and/or cat a safe place to be while the team at FDR work tirelessly to find them quality homes.

Fosters will recognize that rescue animals need time to decompress and training to learn new skills. Unfortunately, most rescue animals were dealt an unfortunate start at life, and they will rely on fosters to provide consistency, stability, and compassion.

  • Provide safe and loving foster homes

  • Help share our available animals on social media platforms

  • Help the FDR team create an informative pet profile/recruit adoptive home

  • Provide food and other essentials for your foster animal. If you would be so kind to provide extras such as toys, etc, they would be grateful!

  • Bring your foster to the veterinarian for necessary appointments

  • Communicate with the FDR team about how the fostering is going!

What do fosters do?

What should Fosters Expect?

FDR is just starting its journey in the world of rescue. Therefore, we want to be open and honest about what we have to offer. We are low on funds, but we will do everything we can to help with vet bills and extra expenses that may occur while fostering other than the basics (food and litter). It might mean that we will team those expenses- at least in the beginning. FDR is working hard to accrue funds and will be transparent about our ability to take on extra expense.

We are a team of roughly ten and will do our best to be communicative with our foster families- ideally in the same day of outreach.

Please note that we are all full time in the workforce and are volunteering our little free time into this rescue because we are caring, compassionate folks- just like you!

Mabel (formally known as Maple) has been a wonderful addition to our family! We have been working hard on some basic training but overall she is doing great. She makes us laugh all the time due to her goofy personality. She loves toys, bones, and has been a great friend to our other pooch, Moe. She loves playing fetch in the backyard and often runs around the yard at full speed with some random dog toy in her mouth which is quite funny to watch. She insists on sleeping with us (right in the middle) and demands to be covered from head to tail. She is a super cuddler with the softest coat around. She does have some stranger anxiety but has made significant progress since joining our family! We absolutely love her and are so thankful that we all found each other :)”
